2003-2005, 40 paintings on Japanese
and Chinese papers
With this series I continued to explore the possibilities of Oriental
brushes, and papers which in spite of being very thn, can be worked
both with wet material (Chinese ink) and dry media (pastel). I was
trying out a new format ,close to the scroll. And I was celebrating
the disappearance of chronic pain in y life, and recovering a full
range of movement that allowed me ample, expressionist gestures and
free-flowing forms that expressed a new-found happiness. The combination
of words and pictures is an homage to the Far East scholars, proficient
both in calligraphy and painting, and to the Oriental papers that
lend themselves both to Sumie-painting and to calligraphy.
